Contemporary and practical living space

The Brief

The clients wanted to bring contemporary Scandi style to their home and still retain English comfort. They hated the existing fireplace, the wallpapers and colour palette belonged to a different generation entirely. The interior architecture consisted of a mixture of traditional features rather than contemporary even though only built in the last decade.

The Challenge

To create a furniture layout that made better use of the space whilst retaining a cosy feel. The furniture and layout needed to be practical as well as stylish for this young family.

The Approach

We decided at a very early stage to take out the partition and use an inset electric fire to define the dining and living zones.
By considering different furniture arrangements and creating 3D models we could see that moving the TV to the opposite wall would achieve everything we wanted from the space.

The Result

By using the same flooring the living area flows from the hall way to all the way through to the rear garden. The new fire is a wonderful addition with colourful, kinetic light without heat when you need cheer on a dreary day.
The scheme incorporates all of the clients’ wishes: Scandi wallpaper in the dining room, soft grey walls teamed with with super teal and mustard furnishings. Textures are accented with metals, wood and glass.
The lighting has been completely changed and transformed. The living room walls are now decorated with lights installed in the alcove walls. Low iron glass shelves allow the light to pass through creating amazing patterns on the ceiling..
The fire housing, glass shelves are bespoke, the furniture and fittings sourced from a number of suppliers to meet the budget and brief.

What our clients say…

We love it! It’s now ‘our home’ and a reflection of us not someone else.

Kate goes on to say that her father (a retired surveyor) is particularly impressed with the lighting and Ben who laid the flooring. A compliment indeed!
